Doug Smith, CCIM
I have participated in a diverse range of real estate development activities, including acquisition and renovation of residential and commercial income properties, downtown office rehabs, new office construction, and residential subdivision development. I specialize in the sale and leasing of office, retail, and industrial properties as well as the sale of income and apartment properties. I hold the Certified Commercial Investment Member (CCIM) designation and act as a consultant to private and institutional clients in property selection, evaluation, and acquisition. And I work extensively with non-profit organizations.
Doug is a 1971 graduate of The University of Michigan with a Bachelor’s degree in Literature and History. After college he trained as a cabinetmaker and opened Smith & Nathan Furnituremakers in Ann Arbor’s Kerrytown district in 1974. Doug joined Swisher Commercial in 1991 after eight years as the head of commercial sales at Edward Surovell Co. Realtors of Ann Arbor.
Doug is active in professional organizations, including the Ann Arbor Area Chamber and the Ann Arbor Area Board of Realtors, where he has served as a director and chair or member of many committees. Doug has served on the Ann Arbor Building Authority since 2016. Doug is also active in civic and community affairs, previously chairing the real estate division of the United Way campaign and serving on the Downtown Plan Study Task Force, Ann Arbor Loft Study Committee, and the Board of Directors of the Ann Arbor YMCA.
Doug is now partly retired from Swisher Commercial. He continues to assist clients in the buying/selling of Ann Arbor apartments and other residential income properties.
